JBL SEND DAD SPACE
JBL SEND Dad is a dedicated support programme for fathers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We recognise that dads are often overlooked in support systems, despite carrying significant emotional, practical, and advocacy responsibilities within SEND families.
Our work focuses on advocacy, wellbeing, and community connection, helping fathers feel supported, informed, and included — not isolated or left to cope alone.
Our Values
At the heart of JBL SEND Dad are five core values:
- Advocacy & Empowerment
We equip fathers with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to advocate effectively for their children across education, health, housing, and social care systems.
- Stability, Safeguarding & Trust
We provide safe, consistent, and well-governed spaces where fathers can engage openly and access support without judgement or stigma.
- Equity & Access
We work to remove barriers that prevent SEND fathers — particularly those from marginalised communities — from accessing the support they need.
- Community Connection & Belonging
We actively address social isolation by creating opportunities for fathers to connect with peers and engage within their local community.
- Wellbeing Through Purposeful Engagement
We believe mental wellbeing improves when fathers participate in meaningful activities that promote purpose, connection, and confidence.
Our Aims
Through JBL SEND Dad, we aim to:
- Support SEND fathers both practically and emotionally, particularly around EHCPs, education pathways, health, housing, and caring responsibilities.
- Reduce social isolation by creating structured opportunities for fathers to build relationships and feel part of a supportive community.
- Improve mental wellbeing through meaningful activities such as workshops, wellbeing sessions, peer engagement, and community-based initiatives.
- Improve outcomes for SEND families by reducing stress, preventing crisis, and strengthening fathers’ ability to support their children and families.
- Amplify the voice of SEND fathers, ensuring their lived experience informs service design, community conversations, and local decision-making.
How We Do This
We achieve these aims by:
- Providing one-to-one guidance and group support for SEND fathers navigating complex systems
- Delivering workshops and information sessions on education, health, housing, and wellbeing
- Facilitating safe, inclusive peer-support spaces rooted in trust and safeguarding
- Creating community-based activities that reduce isolation and promote wellbeing
- Collecting feedback and insight to measure impact and continuously improve our support
Why It Matters
SEND fathers often face isolation, emotional pressure, and limited access to tailored support. By combining advocacy, wellbeing, and community engagement, JBL SEND Dad helps fathers feel stronger, more connected, and better equipped to support their families.
